INSIDE SKID ROW: THE "CITY OF LOST SOULS" HIDDEN IN LOS ANGELES

Welcome to the "City of Lost Souls." This isn't a campsite it's 50 blocks of survival in the scorching Los Angeles heat.

It spans 50 city blocks. It smells of burnt rubber, stale urine, and despair. This is not a campsite. This is Skid Row.

Just a few miles from the glitz of Hollywood and the luxury of Beverly Hills lies a different world. A world that tourists don't see, but one that we cannot ignore. Welcome to the epicenter of the American homeless crisis.

A fight for dignity: Elderly residents must navigate mountains of trash and broken pavement just to move. The most vulnerable have nowhere else to go.

The "Containment Zone"

For decades, Los Angeles has tried to contain its poverty here. But the crisis has exploded. Walking down 5th and San Pedro isn't just walking down a street; it's navigating a maze of thousands of tents, tarps, and makeshift shelters.
Unlike the [Link to Chicago Article: frozen streets of Chicago], the danger here isn't the cold—it's the heat, the hygiene, and the sheer density of human suffering.
"They call it the City of Angels, but down here, we are just ghosts." — A resident of San Julian St.

The Containment Zone: Shiny skyscrapers of Downtown LA loom over the suffering below—a stark reminder of the divide between the ultra-rich and the forgotten.

A Different Kind of Survival

In our reports from the East Coast, we showed you the [Link to Philly Article: open-air drug markets of Kensington]. Here in Skid Row, the battle is mental. The constant noise, the lack of sleep, and the fear of violence wear people down until they enter a "zombie-like" state of survival.
We saw:
πŸš‘ Elderly residents in wheelchairs navigating piles of trash.
πŸ”₯ Tents catching fire from unsafe cooking methods.
πŸ’§ Severe dehydration as access to clean water is scarce.

We go where the media won't. Your support keeps our cameras rolling and helps us amplify the voices of those trying to survive.

The media shows you the red carpets of LA. We show you the concrete.

We are currently documenting the stories of those trying to escape this "containment zone." It is a massive undertaking, and we do it without corporate funding.
