CHICAGO, IL – While the city prepares for the holidays, thousands of unsheltered residents are bracing for something else entirely: a life-threatening freeze.
The Situation Right Now: Temperatures in Chicago are plummeting tonight. The city has activated emergency warming centers, but for many living in tent encampments under the viaducts of Lower Wacker Drive or near the loop, the options are limited.
Shelters are Overwhelmed: Most beds were claimed hours ago.
Hypothermia Risk: Without proper gear, frostbite can set in within 30 minutes.
The Reality: We spoke to a man named David yesterday who told us, "The cold hurts more than the hunger. You can't sleep because if you close your eyes, you're afraid you won't wake up."
Our Mission: Homeless Life Stories USA is on the ground documenting this crisis. We are not just filming; we are witnessing. We need the world to see that behind every statistic is a human being trying to survive the night.
